EU Launches Red Sea Military Mission to Protect Shipping Lanes

The European Union has officially greenlit a new military operation named “Aspides,” aimed at safeguarding commercial vessels traversing one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors. This decision comes in response to ongoing threats posed by the Huthi rebels from Yemen, whose attacks have been jeopardizing not just European trade but the global economy at large.

A Unified Effort for Maritime Security

The EU’s foreign ministers have collectively endorsed the deployment of European warships to the Red Sea and its adjacent areas, marking a robust attempt to shield merchant ships from the militant Islamist Huthi’s assaults. Germany is set to play a pivotal role in this mission, contributing the frigate “Hessen” to the fleet.
