Deutschlandticket price: agree by 30 November
5 min read

The Deutschlandticket price goes up again on 1 January 2027, from 63 to 66.80 euros a month, and for millions of Deutsche Bahn subscribers that increase comes with a deadline. Anyone who ordered the nationwide public transport pass as a DB subscription before 15 October 2026 must actively agree to the new terms by 30 November 2026, bahn.de explains, while newer orders already include the new price. DB subscribers who do not respond will lose their ticket at the end of the year. Other companies that sell the ticket may handle the change differently.
The Deutschlandticket is not the only date to watch this month. November also brings the start of applications for next year's wage tax allowance, tougher rules for small loans and buy now, pay later deals, a new EU emissions standard for cars and the traditional deadline for switching car insurance. Here is what each change means and what you may need to do.
Deutschlandticket price rises to 66.80 euros
The new Deutschlandticket price was set on 30 September by the coordination council of federal and state transport ministries, ZDF reported. For the first time, it was not negotiated politically but calculated with a cost index that tracks developments such as staff and energy costs. The index is meant to be applied every year from now on, so the ticket will follow inflation more closely. The federal government and the states keep their compensation payments to transport companies fixed at 3 billion euros a year.
The increase follows earlier rises. The ticket was launched at 49 euros in 2023, rose to 58 euros in 2025 and to 63 euros in 2026. According to ZDF, the job ticket version will cost 63.46 euros and the semester ticket for students 40.08 euros. The transport association VDV, which says around 14.5 million people use the pass, admitted that the rise will hurt some passengers but argued that transport companies are also hit hard by rising costs.
DB subscribers must accept the Deutschlandticket price by 30 November
Deutsche Bahn treats the higher Deutschlandticket price as a change of contract that needs the customer's consent. On its Deutschlandticket page, the company explains that existing subscribers can accept the new terms in the subscription portal (Aboportal) or in the DB Navigator app, using the function to agree to the contract change. The Local, Techbook and the Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung all confirm the 30 November deadline.
If you do not respond by the deadline, DB will end your subscription on 31 December 2026 at no further cost, and the ticket will not be valid from 1 January. Bahn.de says customers who miss the deadline can still reactivate their subscription until 31 December. Anyone who ordered the ticket on or after 15 October 2026 was informed about the new price during the order and does not need to give separate consent. The Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung notes that other transport companies that sell the ticket may apply different rules, so subscribers outside DB should check with their own provider.

Tax allowance and stricter credit rules in November
From 1 November, employees can apply for a Lohnsteuer-Freibetrag, a wage tax allowance, for 2027. The allowance lowers the tax deducted from each monthly salary when you have high work-related costs, such as a long commute or expensive further training, so you get the money during the year instead of waiting for your tax return. The total tax you owe does not change. Applications for the current year must reach the tax office by 30 November, as teltarif, The Local and the Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung report.
On 20 November, Germany's consumer credit law is extended to forms of financing that were largely exempt until now. The date is set in the law implementing the EU consumer credit directive, which was published in the Bundesgesetzblatt (Federal Law Gazette) in May. The new rules cover small loans of up to 200 euros, interest-free and fee-free instalment offers, loans with a term of up to three months and buy now, pay later models from providers such as Klarna or PayPal. Lenders must check more carefully whether customers can afford the repayments and give fuller information in advance. If a creditworthiness check is automated, customers can ask for a human to review the decision.
The reform also ends the so-called eternal right of withdrawal for new contracts. If a lender gives incorrect mandatory information, the withdrawal period now ends at the latest after twelve months and 14 days, Techbook and the Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung explain. Classic purchase on invoice directly from a retailer, without a bank or payment provider in between, is not covered by the new rules.
Euro 7 and the car insurance deadline
From 29 November 2026, the Euro 7 emissions standard applies to new type approvals of cars and vans, meaning models that are approved for the first time, according to the EU regulation and the German motoring club ADAC. From 29 November 2027, it will apply to all newly registered vehicles in these classes. For the first time, the standard also limits fine dust from brake wear and sets minimum durability for batteries in electric cars and plug-in hybrids. Cars already on the road do not need to be retrofitted, and the rules bind manufacturers, not drivers.
For drivers, 30 November is the more urgent date. Many car insurance contracts run with the calendar year, and if you want to switch insurer for 1 January, your cancellation must reach your current company by that day. Contracts with a different insurance year have other deadlines. If your insurer raises the premium without improving the cover, you usually have a special right to cancel within one month of receiving the new bill, even after 30 November.

What the Deutschlandticket price and November deadlines mean for expats
If the new Deutschlandticket price still works for you and you rely on the pass for your commute, open your DB Navigator app or the Aboportal now and confirm the new terms, unless you ordered on or after 15 October. Travelling without a valid ticket from January could cost you an extra fare of at least 60 euros, bahn.de warns. If you bought the ticket through a local transport company or as a job ticket via your employer, ask them whether you need to do anything.
November also brings opportunities to review your finances. A wage tax allowance for 2027 can raise your monthly net pay if you have high work-related costs, and our guide to German taxes explains the basics. Before using a buy now, pay later option during the Black Friday sales on 27 November, expect more questions about your income, and read our overview of credit and loans in Germany. Families planning a trip may also want to look at Deutsche Bahn's family ticket, which becomes a permanent offer from 1 November at 99.99 euros return for up to five people, including at least one child.
