Recent events have caused a palpable rise in antisemitic sentiments in Germany. Following the brutal attack by the militant Islamist group Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 deaths and the taking of around 240 hostages to the Gaza Strip, Germany has witnessed a significant increase in antisemitic crimes. Felix Klein, the German Government’s Commissioner for the Fight against Antisemitism, reported a staggering 2,249 antisemitic incidents since the attack, drawing upon data from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). This figure almost matches the total count from the previous year, emphasizing a troubling trend in the nation.
